I am an American teacher and trainer with more than 25 years of experience writing, speaking, and consulting. After teaching extensively across Southern California, I embraced an expat opportunity in Dubai, United Arab Emirates where I educate undergraduates at the American University in the Emirates.

Guided by the motto “learn continuously, live generatively” I develop undergraduate and graduate courses in communication, management, and marketing for delivery on campus, online, and in blended learning environments. Leveraging active learning strategies, I also facilitate corporate training on business writing, creativity and innovation, and emotional intelligence for entrepreneurs, Fortune 500 employee, and government officials.

For more than a decade I have authored Doctorious, a blog about my adventures in academia; I also write articles for magazines, newspapers, and trade journals. Balancing theory and reality, my research interests intersect humanity, industry, and technology; I have published my research in books, book chapters, case studies, conference proceedings and publications, and peer-reviewed journals.

A charismatic speaker, I use sincerity, humor, and storytelling to connect with audiences; digital marketing and educational technology are my areas of expertise. You might also find me acting in student films, appearing in television commercials, or performing as a voiceover artist; I have also appeared on three game shows.

As a consultant I craft curriculum, develop websites, creates marketing collateral, design blogs, direct public relations campaigns, and launch courses in learning management systems. A social media subject matter expert, a report I wrote earned the defendants in a copyright infringement lawsuit $500,000 in previously suspended royalties.

A lifelong learner, I am participating in the “United Arab Emirates/Stanford University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Program” which trains educators to inspire an innovation and entrepreneurship mindset in their students. I hold an MBA from Woodbury University and a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing from UC Santa Barbara (with Phi Beta Kappa distinction).

When asked why teaching is my tenure I explain, “education empowers me to shape the lives of others while giving my life greater meaning.”
